ABOUT "DANCING BEAR"

No, I am not of Native American decent.  I've been checking, and there are very few balding Native Americans.  I am of Amish-Bohemian descent, and we do not have a Consulate here in Michigan.  I was born on January 12, 1957, in Cadillac, Michigan.  I grew up in Hoxeyville, a small town near Caberfae Ski Area.  Suffice to say that Hoxeyville has more letters in its name than full time residents.  I met my wife Cindy at Caberfae Ski Area, FAMILYwhere she was a ski instructor.  We moved 16 miles north, to  Mesick, in 1990.  We have a son Noah, 5 1/2, and a daughter Clara, 3.

The nickname "Dancing Bear" was a name first used to describe my skiing technique.  I am pretty sure that it was not a complimentary term.  I am also pretty sure that I am the only skier to be traded to the wrestling team.  The name has followed me for the last 23 years, so instead of fighting the image, I decided to put it to work.Dean

I went to work at Western Concrete Products in Cadillac, Michigan, in 1989.   I worked at a number of positions while I was there, from production to managerial.  While I was at the NCMA's block and paver sales  school, I started developing  what is now the ArrowHead™ paver.  Two years later I approached Alan Fendt at Fendt Builder's Supply about the possibility of producing the new paver (Western buys pavers from Fendt).  Soon after, Dancing Bear Inc. was formed to license the ArrowHead™ paver.   In January of 1995 Western Concrete restructured, and at that time I started promoting my products full time.

In the last four years, I have been well received by members of our industry.  I am a member of ASLA, ICPI, and NCMA.  Dancing Bear is currently developing a new product that should be ready for the new millennium, as well as adding other products.  Dancing Bear will continue to develop and promote new landscape and related products.  Look to the Bear in the future for products that make your projects easier and more beautiful.
